Finding the Best Picnic Spot in Hangang Park

Perfect spot for healing on a sunny weekend at the Han River
If you are looking for a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Seoul just grab a mat and head to Yeouido Hangang Park.
Originally a barren sandy island Yeouido underwent massive development in the 1970s to become the financial and political heart of Korea. Today it serves as an essential green lung for the city where locals come to enjoy the cool breeze and the wide open lawns of the Han River.
The most popular area for a picnic is near the Water Light Square close to Yeouinaru Station Exit 2. This spot is perfect because it is easy to coordinate food deliveries and is close to convenience stores. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere I suggest walking about 10 minutes toward the National Assembly building. There you will find more secluded spots to watch the sunset over the river.
The highlight of any Hangang picnic is undoubtedly the fried chicken delivery and the famous self-cooked instant ramen from the convenience store. You can rent picnic mats and tables for about 10,000 KRW near the park entrance so you do not need to bring your own gear. A budget of 30,000 to 40,000 KRW for two people is enough for a delicious feast by the water.
While Yeouinaru Station on Line 5 is the most convenient access point it gets incredibly crowded on weekends so public transportation is highly recommended. The park is especially vibrant during the cherry blossom festival in April and the fireworks festival in October. Keep in mind that the river breeze can get quite chilly after dark so bringing a light jacket or a small blanket will ensure you stay comfortable until the late evening..
